2010 in retrospect

It’s only a few more hours till 2010 is officially over and we start 2011. Before we officially close this set of 365 and 1/4 days, here is a rundown of some of the major events in 2010 in and outside the Philippines that I’ve come to find specially important. The following paragraphs contain personal opinions and may not reflect everyone else’s but never the less I hope you readers respect them.

Aung San Suu Kyi has been an icon for democracy not just in Myanmar (which I don’t really call Myanmar, instead I call it Burma) but across the globe. I’ve been fascinated with the Nobel award winner since I was first required to read about her in the 6th grade.

After more than a decade of being a politcal detainee, the military government of myanmar finally ended her sentence this year though a few months shy of their elections.

Though it’s already too late for her to be elected into any position, her release sparks a new hope for Burma. Burma is not much different from the Philippines, though cultural differences do exist their current existences are not much far off (in terms of political and economical strife). With Aung San Suu Kyi’s release we might see the same revolutionary action or change as when Cori Aquino led the Philippines out of the Marcos Regime.

The Release of WordPress 3.0

WordPress has been one of the most widely used blogging platform ever since it was created from b2. With the the opening WordPress.com, wordpress became even more widespread as people didn’t need access to hosting, knowledge of php or html to use the powerful content management and blog system. It’s extensibility, ease of use and (at that time) ability to create pages on the fly placed it above competitors such as blogger.

I’ve always been a big fan of wordpress, flavor of life and even Yunie.com (my previous domain) all we’re powered by wordpress even before it became trendy (see this previous blog post). Continue reading “2010 in retrospect” »
