The Blues and Whites

As we approach another weekend of fun, accounting (for some) and ballroom final examinations (for me), we leave behind a week of work, of joys and of sorrows.

I had so many things to do this week, it almost felt like I was racing against the world but it wasn’t just I who had a lot happening, the whole Ateneo community we’re all extremely busy (more than usual at the very least).

Tickets for yesterday’s finals game started selling last Sunday and scalpers we’re really working double time with their 4500 php ticket prices. I wasn’t able to get a ticket anymore cause I had too much to do with my communication 11 presentation due and ballroom practical exams and final exams just around the corner.

As we all know, we won yesterday, after six years Ateneo has their hands on that trophy and those medals once again. I have to say yesterday’s game was really something that you had to watch, I haven’t cried for game in over 6 years and this one made my tears flow. All the players deserve credit for the whole season but just to say, these people really stood out this season. Comtech Jai Reyes, smallest guy on the court but probably one of the best point guards (“shooting guard in a point guards body”, finance manila) was really playing well during the last few games I watched controlling the ball quite well. It’s actually ironic how Coach Norman Black said that they’ll rely heavily on their height advantage this year. Rabeh Al Husseini who I often joke about was really shining this season. A Juggernaut with his height and his skill near the hoop, he landed 31 points for Ateneo against Lasalle during the first game of the finals. Nonoy Baclao was definitely a key player this season. A defensive demon, no one will forget that *blocks Rico Maierhoffer then ROOOOOOOAAAAAAAAR*. Chris Tiu, who is basically here to grab the comments and visits, OK I’M JOKING but yes definitely someone to look up to. Played the game well and led the team well.

This win was definitely something the community needed this year and especially this year. Last Tuesday, news broke out of Gabby Doller’s death. There’s been too many rumors but seriously its all too confusing. I always remembered him hanging out in our Ballroom class and helping us out when we’d ask. It was quite freaky that I learned of the news while I was studying his Rumba video for my practical test. You will be missed.

MK, you don’t need to mention about the rumours of his death in your blog entry. His family has enough matters to deal with, and the reasons for his death are still unknown as of now. Please respect his family’s privacy, and try to stop the rumours or ignore them. Thank you.

I never could afford UAAP ticket. *hangs head* But then again, I’m not a fan even if my university competes there. Yeah yeah, no school spirit or whatever it is they call it. I don’t even know our players’ names (although I distinctly remember a Marvin Cruz, but that’s probably years ago).

I only got to watch the live feed on TV about 5 minutes to the last quarter. Ateneo did play well, but there’s just really too many questions regarding bad calls and bad officiating to just brush off. Even a couple of Ateneo alumni I know were a bit put off by the whole thing. And I also wonder if there’s any truth to the claim that during the bonfire, Ateneo burnt woods with names of the La Salle team etched on them. Any ideas?

Oh, well. Congratulations to your team and school. :)
