Accounting 15 and Macbook Security

I’m taking a break from studying accounting, my Longtest is later this evening at 6pm and I’m not entirely sure if I’m ready for it. I wanted to study right after my Saturday class but Meralco was really great at their services and it took them two hours to get electricity flowing to my street.

I spent my whole Sunday studying with little one hour breaks to watch a Heroes episode since there was a marathon on Star World. I actually missed church to study for it!

Well while I was on my downtime I found these two great Mac applications, they are essentially the same, they mostly differ in appearance. They’re called Lockdown and iAlertu, both are anti-theft applications made for your macbook or macbook pro. Laptop theft was a recent popular discussion over at Philmug Forums and it really got me scared since I usually hang out at one of the restaurants and coffee shops along Katipunan Avenue. This application (along with a cable lock) has given me some sort of relief to lessen the chances of someone stealing my precious Anita. The only problem now is when I’m within campus where POP and SMTP are blocked in the school’s wifi networks preventing these said apps from sending me a picture of the robber. I’m still looking for a way around that but here’s a video to help demonstrate iAlertu (I haven’t found a demonstration of lockdown yet).

Hope your long test wasn’t as terrible as Meralco was. Studying has never been one of my strongest suits, and so is patience for substandard services.

Pretty interesting finds. I’m personally an Ubuntu user primarily, Windows XP occasionally (whenever I use my dad’s laptop…like right now), and I don’t think I’ve heard of similar program for those two OS. Do they work even when your computer is turned off?

Anything for peace of mind, I guess.
